Truffles, Marzipan, Eggs and Easter

Easter is nearly here. I always loved Easter in the same way I loved the Tooth Fairy. The Easter Bunny would come hoppin' down the bunny trail to deliver chocolate eggs, jelly beans and all kinds of sweet treats to "all the girls and boys". No dressing up, no being good for a whole year in order to get something. The Easter Bunny loves all equally -- good or bad, young or old, right or wrong.
The past week I've been churning out the chocolate Easter eggs just for this holiday. And not just eggs, all kinds of chocolate truffles, pistachio marzipan, candied fruits and nuts and pastries galore. It's endless. The more you make, the more you think to make and the more you inevitably eat. In my world, Easter is traditionally celebrated with Easter bunnies, egg hunts, surprise Easter baskets, marshmallow peeps, and lots and lots of chocolate eggs, bunnies, chickens and ducks. Of course there is also the obligatory church service on Easter Sunday. Which, by all accounts is why Easter was invented. Nonetheless, it was always the excitement of waking up on Sunday morning and rushing down the stairs to see what the Easter Bunny brought. Is that a new basket of goodies or did he just rummage through the closet and grab the one I got last year? I have fond memories of having jelly bean hunts in the old farm house. I believe my father is still finding fossilized jelly beans in the nook and cranies of the house. We even would sing Easter songs (yes folks, Easter songs!) on the way to and from church. Like I said though, right or wrong, young or old, good or bad you'll get a visit from the Easter Bunny this month. And that is surely something to celebrate!
